Golly, since I have been neglecting to post to of here of late, I am going to keep you busy.  I was featured on a show called Top This by Shaw Cable. It's all about Geocaching at the Forests for the World.  Check it out now!

Amazing Race Tryout

I haven't been as much on the site lately, though there are snowshoe articles in waiting.  There's been a VERY good reason why I've not been here.  I've been focusing on creating an audition video for the Amazing Race Canada!  Yes, it's coming to Canada and since I am the crazy adventure person, I had to try out for it along with my friend Peter, who I know from the hiking club.

Busting trails Geocaching

When Peter asked if I wanted to do some Geocaching today, how could I resist?  Especially when we would be geocaching with bicycles again.  They are so meant for each other.

Go West : Biking and Geocaching

Another weekend has come and it's time to geocache again, with Melanie and Peter.  I've wanted to do it on previous weekends, but have been too busy.

It was originally supposed to be a nice sunny day, but instead it was clouded over.  We were also originally going to ride out on Highway 16 East to Tabor Lake, but Peter noticed that a lot of the geocaches that we were going to look for, were not active or had been moved.  So he scrapped that idea, and decided that we'd be geocaching on Highway 16 West.  I was out getting food for the day and I didn't notice the change of plans.  My cellphone was off at the time, so that didn't help.

Easter Weekend Bike and Geocache

Squirrel just likes to monkey around
Spring must be here, as Geocaching and biking has returned!  I met up with my geocaching friends Peter and Melanie for an afternoon of Geocaching around the city on Sunday.

PGCAR2011

Today was the Annual geocaching event in Prince George called PGCAR2011.  Short for Prince George Cache and Release day.  As the caches are spread all around town, today's caching would have to be done by vehicle.  We all met at the geocaching member Plumbacres to get the necessary info and passport.

Finally, some Summer Geocaching

Out Geocaching with Geocognita

Summer started in Prince George this past week.  We've had the highest temperatures all season!  I'd say better late then never.

Geocaching where mountain bikes roam

Melanie makes it to the top of UNBC hill
This past Saturday, I joined up with Melanie and Peter (Geocognita) and completed a series of caches near UNBC.  We had 40 more to complete!

I'm all ready to do some more geocaching, bring it on!

More biking/geocaching adventures...

Things are slowly returning to normal.  Well, sort of.  I don't go back to work until tomorrow.  I've been enjoying my holidays.  After returning home, I crashed for a few days.  Then I wanted to bike again!  Seriously, I so wanted to bike.  I biked out of town on Friday and yesterday I joined my geocaching friends and did some geocaching with my bike.  We found 16 caches yesterday in a series of them, but have to return to find more of them.  We just didn't have the time to find all of them in one day. I am glad I brought 2 bottles of water as I needed it.  My friend's only had 1 each and soon ran out.  I learned from the bike tour, carry LOTS of water!

Legion Geocaching Article online

I just noticed that the Geocaching article in the Legion magazine that I was part of, is now online.  The photo credit of my friends Peter and Melanie is incorrect, so I just emailed them about that so it should be corrected soon.

You can view the article at http://www.legionmagazine.com/en/index.php/2011/05/high-tech-hide-and-seek/

Bicycling/Geocaching with Jasper

You find interesting things in geocaches
This afternoon, after work, I went out Geocaching with my friend, Jasper.  We searched for a total of 4 geocaches.  It's nice not to have to just hang around home after work.  Sure, I have things that I have to do, but they can wait for a day.

Bike & Geocache Fail

Crossing the Fraser River
Happy Easter everyone!

It has been so nice out this weekend, that I thought I'd give it another go at geocaching around town with my bike.  I biked out to the BCR Industrial Site, just South of the City. This is where the trains go through, load and unload.

On my way out, a group of cyclists speeding away in their lycra and fast bikes, went past me.  I imagine that they are from the local cycling club.

Gold Geocaching Adventures Part II

Found me a big Gold Nugget!
When I last left you yesterday, we were driving to Quesnel with some geocaching stops along the way.  Quesnel is about 130 or so kms South of PG.

A Gold Geocaching Adventure Part I

While exploring Quesnel, we found some cool Murals.
Yeh!  It looks like Spring is here!  It was a warm sunny day, the first that we've had all year.  Sure, we've had lots of Sunny days, but the cold wind would put a damper on it.

What better to do then to have some Geocaching fun and hit the road at the same time.  I've been itching to do a little road trip somewhere, and this helped sooth the itch for a while.

Little bit of Bike & Geocache

Good day to bike and Geocache
I started doing some more Geocaching this weekend as the weather is getting better and I'm tired of hanging around home.  I haven't geocached since the end of January.  This weekend I found 3.

Sunny Saturday on bike

While doing errands I noticed Mr PG was holding a special flag.  Yeh for the City's support!
Today was errand day. And it was an enjoyable one with the sun being out.  We had some rain last week, so the snow has been disappearing.  I rode over 10 kms just doing errands, it's amazing how many miles I do a day. What's better is I don't even notice!  I can tell Spring is here, there are tons more people out on their bicycles now, which is great to see.  I miss that in Winter.
Lucky postcard in basket is going to Poland!

Ok, tired of Winter!

The sun was out but it was -32c!  Hard to want to leave the house.
I'm so done with Winter.  During the last week the temperatures went up to about 0C and then down to -32C yesterday.  I've been walking to work and taking the bus home as I haven't felt like taking the bike out.  It's a good thing that I had bought some bus tickets so I can use them whenever needed.  It was actually nice walking to work in the morning as long as I kept moving.  My mp3 player though, lost power the other day on my way to work and I thought that it had died.  I had taken it with me when we snowshoed at the Ancient Forest and I thought I damaged it doing that as the snow was so deep.  But after plugging it for a bit, it started charging and the screen turned on! Whew, I guess the subzero temps sucked all the power out of it.

What a difference a week makes!

Path to the Aquatic Centre
It's been a week since I last posted and it's amazing how fast the snow is melting.  It was a balmy 4 c during the week which made things really wet and slushy.  It felt like Spring!

It is now colder again, with a high today of only -8c, which I think is perfect.  Today it was sunny, so I really wanted to spend the day outside enjoying it.  I first took the bike out to do some shopping at the grocery store nearby.  The road was mostly bare with a few icy patches which I tried to avoid.  It was easy going.  As you can see the bike lanes have reappeared.
There is hardly any ice on the side streets.

There is a bike lane again!
After I finished with shopping, I realized that I wasn't ready to hang around home like I do lots in the Winter.  It was too nice a day to do that!  I recently was introduced to Postcrossing by my Sister-in-Law, so I wrote up a postcard to a lady in Finland.  Postcrossing is a site where you send postcards to random places that the site gives you (you have to register), and after the recipient receives the card and logs it online, then other people from around the world will send you a postcard- 1 for each one you send out.  (it is quite secure..only 1 person gets your address when requesting a random address to send a postcard to, for each postcard you send out.)
Sending latest postcard to Auli, in Finland

You are only allowed to send out 5 postcards at a time, although the more you send out, the more the limit grows. I think it's a cool idea!  It reminds me of my penpal days.  I have sent 3 out so far, one to Finland, one to Germany, and one to NYC.  I can't wait to see where I get postcards from.

After mailing the card I went for a ride. I was nice and warm, bundled up.  I then realized that it would be a GREAT day to do some geocaching as I haven't geocached since last Autumn.  I loaded one on my GPS with the coordinates of one new cache and off I went.  Before going, I registered my first travelbug that will be sent from cache to cache. It's called PGPunchbug.  I found the PERFECT geocache to send it off from.  I can only hope that it doesn't get lost like so many travelbugs do!  Wish it some luck.  I still have one more to send off in the future.
PGPunchbug Travel Bug

As I was biking I noticed this man skating on some ice. I love Winter!

This is where they take the snow taken of the City Roads.
It was great day to be on a bike, I even managed to visit a friend for a bit before sun started to set.  Tomorrow will also be great. Even though we have received no new snow, I'm going to go snowshoeing!   After last weeks disappointment of not going, this will make up for it.  And the temperature will be just right. I will take some more photos for you.

Festival of Trees

It's that's time of year again, the Festival of Trees has returned!

I volunteered on Saturday in the Children's Craft area, and I will be volunteering this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  I walked here as it was too miserable and I live only a 5 mins walk away anyways. I did venture out with my bike on Sunday so I could look for a certain bottle of wine that I was looking for (no luck finding it) and do some shopping.  I stopped by the festival to look at the trees as on Saturday, I had no time to look at them!

There's even a nice kids mountain bike to win.

I loved this piece.

Heh, I can enter to win Hiccups Dragon Christmas.

It's been snowing lots so I've been walking to work this week.  It's really not too bad as it's only a 20 min walk away and it's still green.  I gave in and bought bus tickets today for those really cold days, but I will still walk in the morning unless really cold, then I will take cab as there is no bus service when I go to work.  I am hoping it will be like last year where I can use the bike more in January, but the weather forecast says for lots of snow this winter.  I will try to ride here and there, especially for grocery shopping as it's much easier shopping that way.

I prefer the snow over cold though, even if it makes for tough biking.  It's actually quite mild now.  But Winter is most definitely here!

I can't get at my geocache 70 kms away.  I suppose that's one bad point of not having a vehicle.  I am hoping it'll stay dry.  I have a geocoin with instructions and a log book that I don't want to get wet.  I may have to dig it out with a shovel when I finally do get a way to get to it!  Oh well, I'm sure it's ok as it's in as sealed
(hopefully still) ziploc bag  in a tupperware container.
