Pacific Coast Slideshow.

It is less then 1 month until my slideshow about my bike tour:

Join Carolyn Ibis and Deanna Walker as they show photos and talk about their amazing 16 day bicycle ride down the Pacific Coast! From the tip of Oregon down to San Francisco and in between, they never would know how each day of riding would unfold. It definitely was an adventure that they will never forget.

They both hope to inspire others to try out bicycle touring.

Me and my co-rider, Deanna Walker, will be doing the presentation at Artspace, which is located above Books and Company.

Date:  April 19
Time:  7:00 pm
Location:  Artspace (above Books and Company on 3rd Ave)

Hope to see you there!

Humbug to Brookings- last bit of Oregon

Cat resting at the Book Dock Bookstore in Brookings
Humbug to Oregon - Last bit of Oregon - the end of one chapter and soon, the beginning of another in the journey.

Here's some more photos that I took on my trip... I really love the cat one, he/she seemed to be right at home in the bookstore, and what's a bookstore without a resident cat?

Seven Devils and other random Pacific Coast Bike Trip Photos.

Between Newport and Jessie M. Honeymoon State Park
Manchester Beach to Jessie M. Honeymoon State Park, and beyond....

It's really hard to choose photos to post here. I have so many to choose from. I don't want to post all in the case that someone coming here will view my slideshow... anyways, here's another post of only some of the photos that I took.  I had the slideshow in mind while travelling, hence the ton of photos.

Pacific Coast Photo Album - Day 2

Bridge that connects Washington to Oregon
Astoria to Nehalem Bay State Park

(Approximately 40 or so Miles)

*Warning* If you are going to see my eventual slide-show in the future, many of these photos will be featured in it.

We stayed at a hotel near one of bridges that connects Washington to Oregon states.  I have heard that it is quite a challenging bridge to cross on a bike because of the strong crosswinds, although apparently the official ACA route goes across another bridge.   And that one is also very challenging as you can imagine. Even though we didn't have to cross those particular bridges, we did have our fair share of challenging bridges to cross on our journey.  (Tunnels too)

Before departing for Nehalem Bay, we took a side trip to the Goonies house.  I love the sign at the beginning of the driveway.

One of two tunnels that we had to go through
We went through one of the tunnels on the first day.  Another bicyclist was kind enough to push the 'bicycles in tunnel' sign button to activate the blinking lights on the warning sign.

We met this group of woman cyclists in Seaside, they were riding on a fully supported tour down the Oregon Coast/
Nehalem  Bay

Final Destination - Part II

Bicycling towards Sausalito
After meeting up with Leo at the Village Peddler, I continued on towards San Francisco.  Even though it was only 20 km away, it was taking longer to ride it as I was riding in the City.  I read the directions in the 'Bicycling the Pacific Coast' book carefully, so I wouldn't get lost.

Final Destination - Part I

On my final Day, I said my goodbyes to fellow bicyclists staying at Samual P. Taylor State Campsite, which is about 40 km North of San Francisco. The campsite was full of riders from all over and a few hitchhikers also.

2012 Pacific CoastTrip Recap (so far)

On August 10, me and Deanna took the train to Portland.  While waiting for the connection to the coast, we rode around.  We enjoyed a sampling of Micro Brews at one of many micro-breweries  around the bike friendly city.

We then took the 2 1/2 hour bus to Astoria, where we were dropped off right by our hotel.  It was a basic hotel, but it suited our needs and we both got a good nights rest before the adventure.

Next morning, we checked out the Goonies house.  Then we prepared to leave Astoria.  After ridinjg for a bit, I had to return to the hotel as I left some clothing behind.

Goonies in Astoria

While in Astoria, I will be visiting the Goonies house.  I think that it's cool that in the intro, the characters are riding bikes.  One is riding one though that is way too small!  LOL!!

Here is a clip from the beginning scenes of the movie, which is one of my favourite classics that I love.  I love the Cyndi Lauper song, I've put it on to my mp3 player to play when I'm in Astoria.

Staycation style bike camping

We camped near town
(This is the last in a serious of posts before my big Pacific Coast Bicycle Tour starts)

Last weekend, I did one last local bike camping trip in preparation for the big trip on the Pacific Coast. As I thought that I would house-sitting, I booked a campsite near the city.  It turns out that I didn't have to house-sit, but as I couldn't cancel the reservation, I decided to work around it.

Tour De Jasper 2012 - Day 3

Coffee Break in Mcbride
Squirrel fights the wind.

Like the day before, I was by myself again  for the first stretch.  Well, I was with Glen, but by the time I climbed up the hill to get out of the Lasalle Campsite, he was long gone!

Another 100 + km ride to Tete Jaune

This day, unlike the day before, I didn't panic and just road casually knowing that I would eventually catch up with someone.  I do admit, that I was so happy to see other riders!  It is much more fun for sure riding with someone.  While riding along up a hill, I did see a bear in the bush, but he was quite a ways away and didn't notice me.  I just kept on riding.
For a lot of the day I rode with the twins who were very nice to ride with.  They ride the same speed as me, slow.

Tour De Jasper 2012 Preview

Day 1 Destination:  Purden
I've just come back from Tour De Jasper 2012.  I'm still recovering from the trip and sorting my gear out.  I have managed to start working on some posts to put on the blog.  I had a great time and took some awesome photos of this year's adventure.  Here's a mere taste which feature some of the riders on the trip:

Stay tuned for more posts!

Nine days until First Summer Adventure.

Tour De Jasper is around the corner!

I am going to be helping out at as a sweep again. I really can't wait to get out.  I was kind of sad that I didn't go to Bear Lake this weekend, but that's the way things go.

I think that we will be having a good tour this year.  Last year we had so much rain!  I can't wait to see the mountains again, it seems like forever since I have last seen them.

If you are a new follower of my blog, you should check out my previous trips:

Canada Day Ride

Me in my geeky bike clothing- so I could be seen on the highway
Squirrel celebrates Canada Day
On July 1, the clouds lifted and there was sunshine!  It was like a miracle. It was also Canada Day!  Mary-jo left a message just after the crack of dawn for me to call her back.  She wanted to go riding and so did I.  It was so boring hanging around home on Saturday, June 29.

Another Rainy Summer?

The June Critical Mass was a rainy one
Last Summer was the Summer of extreme rain.  Lots of flooding.  This Summer is turning out to be much of the same. There's still 2 1/2 weeks until Tour De Jasper starts, but will the rain clear up in time?

Bike camping at Purden Lake

Me with my Summer riding companion, Deanna

Squirrel goes to the lake

This weekend I went on a 124 km bicycling adventure to Purden Lake and back with my Summer travelling companion, Deanna. (62 kms each way)

We left the city in the rain, but it cleared up as we reached the top of the hills out of the bowel of the City.  It was still quite warm despite it being overcast.

A Fun Overnight Practice Run

Practice ride around town
Squirrel is back at it!

In case you are wondering why I haven't posted as much recently.  This is the reason.  I'm building myself up as much as possible for the upcoming Summer adventures.  Not that I am not in shape already, but extra long distance riding beforehand doesn't hurt.

Training ride to Tabor

Today I rode to Tabor Mountain and back with my friend Mary-Jo.  After seeing it rain all week, it was nice to see Sun!
I rode easily up the hill to the airport.  We stopped at Mr. G's for a quick break.  We also took lots of breaks along the way.
One of the stops was at the actual mountain where there is some awesome skiing in the Winter.
We bumped into some friends who were also doing a training ride!  Good to get ready for it I would say.
This is a test post with photos and story posted from my tablet.  Thanks for inviting me again Mary-Jo!
