Mt. Magnus- Sunday Hike. With a side of bicycle.

On Sunday, a group of us went down near Barkerville and hiked up Mt. Magnus.  It's one of the first mountains in the area to be almost snow free.  It was a great day for a hike, no rain till after we got down.  It was a steep climb up, but thankfully it wasn't too hot.  I wore shorts though as I hate getting overheated.  It's easy to add layers if needed.  Up top it was cold enough for touque and wool gloves.

Above:  Heh, there's me!
Below:  Me, and my hiking buds, Kim and Laura.

Lunch break.  Bowron Lakes down below peaks.

The lake in the background,  is one of Bowron Lakes..you can take an adventurous multi-day canoe trip on the lakes chain.

My Keen sandals came in handy for crossing the creek after the hike- have to cross it to start and end the hike
Not too deep, but freezing cold!  Brrrrrrrrrrr.

What's my blog without a bit of bike theme somewhere in the posts?  I found this multi-seater
in Wells, a beautiful historic village situated in a picturesque mountain valley.  It's a very artistic community.

Mirrycle is wonderful!

I bought a new Mirrycle yesterday. I had my other one for 15 yrs, but only started using it when I got my new bike a year and a half ago. Now I can't bike without one.  I am surprised that they still sell them after all these years, it's identical to the one I originally bought many moons ago.  They aren't too expensive, I got mine for  almost $20, although I've seen them for sale online for as little as $13 US.

One of the screws got stripped, the mirror loosens and you have to tighten it up once in a while, and eventually it tightens no more. :(  This is quite common, apparently.

So I bought another one as I like the the way it can be adjusted by the pivot points. I think one of the better bike mirrors around. No vibration!   How many out there use a mirror and can't live without it?  What is your favourite mirror?   Do you prefer ones that fit on helmet, or ones that go on bike?

Bicycle trailers survey/Farmer's Market

I just returned from this Saturday's Farmer's Market.  It is much nicer then the last time I was there.  The first thing I did as I get there is do a Bike Trailer survey.  A guy is planning on making bike trailers locally; sign me up!  Actually, I might be lucky enough to get to try one out sometime.  I'd be able to borrow one for Tour De Jasper, but I don't need to carry much.  But we will see if I can get him to let me borrow one for an overnighter, that would be awesome...:)   I said I could review it on my blog as I read a lot of other bike blogs and it would give his company much needed publicity.   The trailer he had there looked pretty sturdy.  Reminds me of a Wike Trailer.  (actually it has Wike wheels)  Oh, he just LOVED my bags!  ;)  I'm sure people remember them when they see me biking around...I'm the ONLY one with them around.

Cool things happen at Farmer's Market!  I also might have a sponsor for the Ancient Forest.  The cafe I visited last time and this time, is interested in donatining for a 'section' of the Universal Boardwalk.  :)  I saw some neat bikes today..including one with a chainguard.  This isn't the one with Chainguard, but I liked it nevertheless.

I parked my bike for a while and the LGRB sign got the spotlight!

I had time to enjoy a coffee outside in the sun at my fav Saturday morning cafe...

I picked up more Fiddleheads (frozen) and some tasty German buns from local bakery.  Yum!  The buns are great for sandwiches.  I will use them on the Mt. Magnus hike tommorrow.

Bike to Work Week Prince George

I've been participating in this year's Bike to Work Week.  This is the second year that it's happened in PG.  Due to funding shortages, the stations were only placed on Monday and Wednesday morning, both after I started my work shift.  They ended before I was off.  Kind of bummed about that, but nevertheless, I keep my chin up, bike to work, with last year's Bike to Work shirt that I got.

I've entered our work results so far at http://www.biketowork.ca/node/5793/results

What I wish we had in PG was more group rides, once a month for Critical Mass seems a long time to wait.  It's so much fun riding in a group!  Jillian, the local Bike to Work Week organizer,   says I should join the cycling club..they have 'casual' rides on Thursdays.

Does your City have a Bike to Work Week?

The Ancient Forest - Part II

Above:  A Stream Violet

There was not all work and no play this past weekend.  I had time in the evening to wonder around the trail with my camera.  It is such a beautiful and peaceful place to take photographs.  I like the waterfall, very tropical like.

Above:  Rosy Twiststalk (?)  Definitely a type of Twiststalk.
Below:  A maturing Bracken Fiddlehead (not safe to eat)

Below:  Treebeard Falls
Above: Skunk Cabbage
Below:  Camp....my brand new tent is on the right, perfect for backpacking AND bike touring!

Above:  Beautiful Mountain sunset.  I love camping in the Mountains!  We will be biking out this way when I do Tour De Jasper this Summer.

And now for "bike connection".  Nowell, who maintains the Ancient Forest site- ie comments, donations,  found this card in the comments box and gave it to me as he thought I'd be interested in it as I like bicycling.  :)

Somebody who is biking Canada...His blog is at www.tiredofit.ca

As I was biking around town yesterday, I met two bicycle tourers from Europe, and they were headed East.  I told them not to miss the Ancient Forest!  I hope they enjoy it...

Here's a slideshow that I created for a recent Ancient Forest Fundraiser- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7F9KFBGzY4
